In today’s class we’re going to explain you what the elevator pitch is.
What should you know after this class?
Pitch deck.
- It is a brief presentation in which investors (or someone else) are given an overview of a business.
Elevator pitch.
- It is a technique to present an idea in a short time.
- It is for to present your idea in an attractive and simple way, summarizing the most important information.
- On average, an elevator pitch is between two and five minutes. The context, the situation and the target audience are the factors that defines the appropriate time.
An elevator pitch in eight steps.
- Statement and question: start with a question or a surprising statement to get the audience’s attention. You should think about the target audience.
- Team: it is the time for you to introduce yourselves. You should tell things that add value to the presentation, no what everyone else would include. Try to be original.
- Problem or need: if there is no unsolved problem or unmet need, you may have fallen in love with your idea. Ideally, the message should be concise and forceful, like a marketing slogan.
- Solution: this is the wow moment of the presentation. The time to introduce the idea or solution. Explain what your product consists of (be concrete).
- Solution details: explain the details of your solution. If you have a prototype, include images.
- Benefits: in this section you have to summarize the main benefits that your solution brings to the user. Be careful, sometimes there are several users and it not advisable to mix benefits.
- Why you? surely there are other solutions that address the same problem or opportunity. Put yourself in value.
- Call to action: it is time to tell the audience the next steps.
